The Church of the Ascension was built in 1910, which granted Khvatovka the status of a village. After the church was closed in 1937, its building became the location of the Khvatovka Secondary School. From the founding of the church until its closure in 1937, the priest was Alexander Helikonov, who was shot by the Bolsheviks immediately after the church was closed.
