The Ascension Church in the village of Gavrilovo was built in 1851 with funds from the landowner, Collegiate Councillor Vasily Ivanovich Yasherov, as well as donations from the peasants. The stone church with a bell tower and three altars was located at the highest point of the village. By 1919, the priest was Sergey Petrovich Speransky, a graduate of the Nizhny Novgorod Theological Seminary. Since 1914, he also worked as a law teacher at the Lopatinskaya Zemstvo School. Unlike other churches in the area, the priest received a salary of 300 rubles here. At that time, the church elder was Ivan Guryanovich Avdonin.
