Ascension of the Lord Church in Tsikino

Фото 1
The Tsikino church, one of the most beautiful in the Sokolsky district, is dedicated to the Orthodox holiday of the Ascension of the Lord. Its construction began in the 13th century, and it was originally wooden. In 1822, at the same site, a stone church was built with funds from local residents, following a decision by the Kostroma diocese. The construction lasted eight years. On December 11, 1938, the Ivanovo Regional Council decided to close the church, revoke its status as a place of worship, and transfer it to the Sokolsky district council for use as a cultural institution. The temple reopened its doors in 1944. It was the only church in the Sokolsky district that was not destroyed or looted. The location chosen for its construction is very fortunate: the church is visible from all sides and seems to reach upwards, towards the sky.
