The church was founded on September 21, 1818, with the blessing of Bishop Justin of Perm and Yekaterinburg. It had two altars: the cold church was dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord, and the warm chapel was dedicated to Saint Catherine the Great Martyr. A three-tiered bell tower adjoined the warm church. The construction of the chapel was completed within a year, and on October 11, 1819, after its consecration, services began. The iconostasis for this church was purchased for 300 rubles at the Yekaterinburg Catherine Cathedral. In 1843, it was replaced with a new three-tiered iconostasis with silver vestments on local icons, costing 1643 rubles. The main church, with the new and valuable iconostasis, was completed in 1834, and on May 29, it was consecrated by Bishop Evlampiy of Yekaterinburg. The construction of the church with the bell tower, including interior finishing, the iconostasis, and two porches built in 1840, cost 36,000 rubles. The iconostasis in the main church cost 12,767 rubles.

In 1874, the chapel was abolished, and instead, two new chapels were started on the northern and southern sides of the warm church: the northern, in honor of Saint Righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye the Miracle Worker, and the southern, in honor of Saint Catherine the Great Martyr. At the same time, two rooms for the sacristy and a watchman's lodge were being built. The southern chapel was completed in 1879 and consecrated on November 23 by Priest A. Parychev. The northern chapel was finally arranged and consecrated only in 1899. The delay was caused by the church being deprived of income from the market square and the poor harvests of 1890 and 1891. The iconostasis in this chapel, made in the Gothic style with gold carving on an aluminum background, cost 2000 rubles and was built with funds allocated by the market square society according to a decision made in 1897. On May 25, in memory of the coronation of Emperor Nicholas Alexandrovich and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, the consecration took place.

From 1894 to 1899, the main cold church underwent reconstruction according to the designs of architects Kozlov and Dyutel. The side entrances from the warm chapels were bricked up, and instead, a wide arch was made in the solid wall. The cold church was transformed into a warm one by installing a heater and second frames and doors. The cost of the reconstruction work, including ornamental work and painting in the main church and chapels, as well as the installation of two heaters under the sacristy and watchman's lodge, amounted to 4605 rubles. Of this, 850 rubles were public funds allocated on January 24, 1899, in memory of Emperor Alexander III for his assistance to the population during the famines of 1890 and 1891.
