Ascension of the Lord Church in Ailino

Фото 1
The Ascension of the Lord Church in Ailino is one of the oldest in the Satka district and the only one remaining in this village. Previously, there were also churches of the Old Believer and Uniate communities in the ancient Southern Ural village. The Ascension Church was founded in 1869 at the initiative of parishioners and benefactors, and its construction was completed in 1875 when the church was consecrated. The parish of this single-altar church included the village and four neighboring villages, where 3,161 people lived, as well as a combined zemstvo school.

In the mid-1930s, the church was closed and began to be dismantled: the sandstone block fence was taken down, church relics were confiscated, frescoes were painted over, and the burial site of the priests was destroyed. The ancient icon depicting Jesus Christ was also lost. In the post-war years, the church building housed a rural club, and from 1950 to 1987, it served as a house of culture.

In 2001, Metropolitan Ioann of Chelyabinsk and Zlatoust blessed the restoration of the church. A team of craftsmen, including finishers, carpenters, plasterers, and artists, worked to restore the monument to its former grandeur and beauty. On September 5, 2005, Metropolitan Ioann consecrated the revived Holy Ascension Church in Ailino.

The restored church building was completed according to the original design, although the architect's name has not survived. The main volume of the church is a two-light square with an adjoining refectory and a tent-shaped bell tower. The snow-white walls symbolize purity and holiness, while the massive doors and peaks of the wrought-iron fence remind of protection and peace under the church's arches. The church is adorned with five silver domes, one of which rises above the others, symbolizing Jesus Christ and the four evangelists.

The wall paintings inside the church were done by an artistic workshop from Katav-Ivanovsk. These masters also painted the Holy Trinity Church in Miass, the Church of John the Baptist in Katav-Ivanovsk, the Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Bakal, and the baptistery at the Church of Nicholas the Wonderworker in Satka.
