The first church in the village was built about 400 years ago. According to data collected by the famous local historian of the Sergach district, N.I. Soldatova, in the central archive of the Nizhny Novgorod region, there was a wooden church on stilts in Achka during the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich, consecrated in honor of the Ascension of the Lord. According to legends, it was located near Ladilovo and stood for probably more than two hundred years. Archive documents from 1817 report that in 1746 a wooden Ascension church without side altars was built on the same site. The priest was David Nikitich, 68 years old, and there were 614 men in the parish.

According to the address calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese for 1904, a new wooden church was built in the center of the village between 1843 and 1845. A legend is associated with this time: when timber was being delivered for construction, the team of horses, almost reaching the old church, stopped on a slope. The horses would not move, and the elders decided that this place was suitable for the new church. By the mid-19th century, the village had expanded, and the southern side began to be developed. Thus, a new site for the church was chosen.

The church was consecrated in 1845, with the main altar dedicated to the Ascension of the Lord. In 1864, a fence appeared around the church, and a bell weighing 113 poods was acquired. In 1885, new crosses were installed. The church was not rich in utensils, but everything was acquired by the parishioners. A photograph of the church taken in the early 20th century by our fellow countryman Fyodor Skvortsov has been preserved. In 1959, local artist Anatoly Ustimov created several drawings of the church.

The early 20th century brought changes: the church was closed, priest G. Mirolyubov was arrested, and the church was converted into a club. On January 8, 1959, during a film screening, the club burned down, and 64 people died in the fire.

Since 1959, the village lived without a church. However, in 2013, thanks to State Duma deputy Vitaly Borisovich Yefimov, the construction of a new church began. On August 30, 2013, Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas consecrated the laying of the church in honor of the Ascension of the Lord. On October 4, 2014, the consecration of the new church took place, which was built in the center of the village, not far from the site of the burned church.
