The Cemetery Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in the city of Varnavino was wooden, with a similar bell tower, and was built in 1897 with funds from Ivan Gavrilovich Popov, a hereditary honorary citizen of Varnavino. The wooden fence of the city cemetery also served as a fence for the church. The temple was single-altar and dedicated to the Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord. Nearby were other churches: the city Trinity Cathedral, the Nicholas Church in the village of Lapshangi 5 versts away, and the Mother of God Church in the village of Bebeirina 6 versts away. The church was lost in the early 1940s.
