The Church of the Exaltation of the Honorable and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord, located at Lunacharsky Street, 1, is hidden behind the thick crowns of trees. From the opposite side of the Nikolsky Bridge, from the Lovers' Bridge, or from the Tura River, a beautiful view of it opens up. The history of the church is also interesting, although not easily accessible.

On January 2, 1774, a wooden church in honor of the Resurrection of Christ and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker burned down at the southern tip of the Zatyumen Cape. In 1605, the Yamskaya sloboda was founded, and its residents were parishioners of the Resurrection Church. The parish included 175 households, including the villages of the Tyumen district: Voronina, Meteleva, Knyazheva, and Kazanskaya.

On December 22, 1774, the construction of a new stone church in the Baroque style began with funds from the parishioners, by the blessed decree of Bishop Varlaam I Petrov of Tobolsk and Siberia. In 1777, the altar of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker was consecrated, and in 1791, the main altar in honor of the Resurrection was erected. The full consecration of the church took place in March 1792.

Influential citizens participated in the construction and improvement of the church. The copper bells were cast at the factories of the Gilev brothers. In 1845, Kondratiy Sheshukov donated 32 iron grilles for the fence, gates, a set of vessels, and a shroud. In 1867, Ivan Petrovich Kolokolnikov financed a major renovation. In 1845, the church was renamed in honor of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross.

In 1849, merchant Matvey Gushchin donated an icon of the Uncreated Image to the church. In 1866, parishioners attempted to return the icon of the Savior of Tarkhany, but the diocesan authorities refused. An appeal to the Holy Synod yielded no results.

With the arrival of Soviet power, persecution of the church began. On April 25, 1922, a group associated with the Church of the Exaltation was arrested for collecting signatures against the confiscation of church valuables. In 1929, the church building was repurposed as a cinema. In 1949, a commission recognized the church as a worthless architectural object, and the building was handed over to an aeroclub.

On March 30, 1987, the church was placed under state protection as a monument of history and culture. On March 5, 1993, the building was transferred to the Tobolsk-Tyumen Diocese. In 1995, the church became affiliated with the Tyumen Holy Trinity Men's Monastery, whose abbot was Father Tikhon Bobov. In 1996, restoration work on the church began. In 1997, a Spiritual School appeared on the church grounds, and in 1998, the final stage of restoration was completed with the installation of the dome.
