Church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Shashkovo

The Exaltation Church is a two-story stone building with a stone bell tower. It is sturdy and surrounded by a stone fence on the front side, while the other three sides are enclosed by a wooden fence. The church has four altars: three are located on the upper floor, dedicated to the Exaltation of the Lord, in the name of the Mother of God, known as "Deliverance from the Suffering," and in the name of St. Cyril of Novoezersk, the miracle worker. On the lower, warm floor, the altar is dedicated to St. Nicholas the Miracle Worker. The church was built in 1775 by Collegiate Councillor Alexander Iosifovich Kozhin. The icon of the Mother of God "from the Suffering" is especially venerated.

The church land is divided into three plots: according to the plan, the church has 49 desyatins and 135 square fathoms, of which 21 desyatins are located under the Volga; the donated wasteland of Ploski is situated 5 versts from the church, near the village of Panino, and comprises 21 desyatins; near the village of Kirillovskoye, there are 11 desyatins. Church houses are provided for the clergy. The church tickets hold a capital of 481 rubles. There are 497 male and 526 female parishioners. The village is located on a hill by the Volga, 60 versts from Yaroslavl. A church-parish school operates in the village. According to the statute, the clergy should consist of a priest and a psalmist. The state salary for the clergy amounts to 400 rubles, while the parish capital is 3819 rubles.
