Gari, a village in the Sokolsky district. According to the order of the Department for the Protection of Historical and Cultural Heritage of Nizhny Novgorod and the Nizhny Novgorod Region dated April 24, 2000, No. 5-OD, the village church of the Nativity of Christ, built in 1776, was recognized as a historical and cultural heritage site. However, this order lost its validity on October 20, 2014, due to order No. 159.

The "State Register of Historical and Cultural Monuments of the Nizhny Novgorod Region" states that the village has a monument of urban planning and architecture, the Nativity Church, built in 1818, with the document on acquiring status No. 22. According to information provided by Natalia Listvina, local residents associate the name of the village with an act of self-immolation by Old Believers during the church schism. There is another version: the settlement arose on the site of a burned forest and consisted of two parts, Nativity and Gari. The Nativity Church with an altar in honor of the Nativity of Christ was built in the mid-18th century, and the village began to be called Gari of the Nativity. However, the wooden church quickly deteriorated, and in the 19th century, a five-domed stone temple was erected in its place with several altars, including the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and in honor of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

During the Soviet era, the church was closed: the first floor housed workshops for machine and tractor stations, while the second floor was used as a dormitory. Now, the temple, located in the center of the village, is in a state of disrepair.
