The Resurrection Church is located in the village of Kostylyha in the Arzamas district of the Nizhny Novgorod region. It was built in 1652 and is the oldest wooden church in the region. Originally, it was a complex structure with a forty-sided shape. The modern appearance of the church only vaguely resembles its original form. The octagonal part of the building is joined on three sides by four-walled chapels with five-walled altars, and on the fourth side, there is a refectory and the main altar, covered with two- and five-pitched roofs. The octagon is topped with a large dome with a lantern.

Numerous repairs and relocations, possibly from Arzamas to the village of Vodovatovo in 1742 and to Kostylyha in 1916, as well as the long storage of the log structure before its installation in 1921, resulted in the original oak log structure being preserved only partially. The missing logs were replaced with pine, and the red fiber windows were enlarged. The unique open tent structure, typical of Russian architecture, which ended with an octagon, has not survived. During assembly, it was only possible to restore it to a height of five crowns. Inside the church, there are altars with an ordered composition, rich carvings, and gilding, installed in the first half of the 19th century to replace older ones. The spacious prayer hall with a high octagonal tent and the refectory chapels combined with it, as well as the horizontal rows of icons on the altar barriers, is how the temple appeared before the internal reconstructions. Information about the original external appearance of the Resurrection Church has not been preserved.
