The stone Resurrection Church was built by the Rostov merchant Nikolai Alekseevich Kekin as a temple on the family cemetery of the Kekin merchants. In Rostov, the parish church for this family was the Church of the Resurrection, located near the smaller city rampart. The wooden Church of the Resurrection burned down in 1795 and was not restored. In the early 19th century, the Kekin merchants moved the remains of their ancestors to a new family cemetery in the Varnitskaya sloboda, near the Trinity-Sergius Monastery. In place of the wooden church, Nikolai Alekseevich Kekin built the Church of the Resurrection of the Word in 1814. This holiday is celebrated on September 13 (according to the old style) or September 26 (according to the new style) and is dedicated to the renewal of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Jerusalem, built in 335 by Emperor Constantine the Great.

The Church of the Resurrection is designed in the classical style, characteristic of most churches from the first quarter of the 19th century. An octagonal volume with a dome and cross rises above the church's square base. The church is adjoined by a refectory with a bell tower, and the entrance is decorated with a portico featuring columns of the Tuscan order. Inside the church, there are two altars, consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas and the Holy Martyr Clement, Pope of Rome, which is connected to the memory of the former wooden church. The church housed a particularly venerated icon of St. Nicholas from the wooden Nikolsky church. The walls of the Resurrection Church were painted by the Petersburg artist F. Egorov. On the western facade, images of St. Nicholas and the Holy Martyr Clement have been preserved on either side of the entrance. The parish of the Resurrection Church included 8 settlements.

In 1908, there were 17 men and 17 women in the Varnitskaya sloboda; in the villages: Babki had 54 men and 74 women, Myatezhevo had 62 men and 50 women, Reltsy had 42 men and 40 women, Dartzovo had 158 men and 185 women, Khonyatino had 85 men and 98 women, Ivaiha had 47 men and 51 women, and Sazhino had 61 men and 71 women. In total, the parish had 1,112 people. There were two schools in the Varnitsky parish: a second-grade school funded by the state in the village of Dartzovo and a zemstvo school. A church-parish guardianship also existed at the church.
