The church in Novo-Akhatovo was part of the fourth Deanery of the Sergač district of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese. The wooden church, built in 1858, had one altar. It was consecrated that same year in honor of the Renewal of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ. Local landowners allocated 42 desyatinas of land to the church, which supported the clergy consisting of a priest and a psalmist. In 1888, the priest in Novo-Akhatovo was K. P. Khersonsky, and the psalmist was M. G. Lastochkin. That year, the parish had 1,249 parishioners. In the early 20th century, the clergy in Novo-Akhatovo included priest Mikhail Kapitonovich Khersonsky and psalmist I. P. Sirotin, while K. F. Vanilin served as the church elder.
