Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Neronovo

Фото 1
In the Soligalich district lies one of the most expressive examples of a manor church, built in several stages reflecting the transition from Baroque to Classicism in provincial architecture of that time. Among the buildings in the area, this structure stands out for its well-preserved original interior finishes. To carry out skilled work, the church owner employed serfs, whom he specifically sent for training in crafts in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Construction began around 1780 and was mostly completed in 1793 with the consecration of the main altar. Later, at the turn of the 18th-19th centuries, a separate bell tower was built to the west, and in the early 19th century, it was connected to the refectory by a small porch. The interior decoration was likely completed in 1807 with the laying of cast-iron floors. In the first half of the 19th century, two brick porches were added to the sides of the church. In the second half of the same century, the existing iconostases were installed in the refectory, which housed two chapels. In the mid-19th and early 20th centuries, several members of the Chereviny family were buried under the floor of the porch.

The building has a symmetrical composition relative to the longitudinal axis, consisting of the church with an apse and a refectory with a porch and bell tower. The exterior walls are covered with lime plaster and painted ochre, while the decorative details are whitewashed. The foundation of the composition is a massive two-light square of the church, topped with a hemispherical roof and five domes. The five-sided apse, adjoining from the east, is somewhat narrower than the church, while the square refectory is equal in width to it. The small porch is slightly narrower and lower than the refectory. The tall four-tiered bell tower is one of the finest examples of mature Classicism in the area. The squares of its three lower tiers decrease upwards and support the upper tier with beveled corners, topped with a tribune and a high spire.
