In January of this year, the stone building of the Church of the Resurrection of the Lord was transferred to the parish of the Smolensk Cathedral in Olonets. The archpriest of the Olonets district, Archpriest Mikhail Terenyak, informed our correspondent that, by the decision of the village meeting, local residents have begun to restore the church.

The church building is in satisfactory condition; however, in February and March, fifty tractor loads of pigeon droppings had to be removed from the attic.

The first step will be to prepare project documentation and restore the historical appearance of the church in the drawings. However, contractors demand 250,000 rubles just for the historical reference and building inspection. Ahead lies a large-scale and costly task of designing, erecting the dome with the bell tower, altar part, iconostasis, as well as casting and installing the bell, noted the archpriest.

Local residents are unable to collect such an amount on their own. Orthodox believers from Megrega are appealing to the residents of the republic for help in the revival of the Church of the Resurrection of Christ.

The church in the large village of Megrega was built in 1868, but wooden churches had existed at this site before. The Pisytsovaya book of the Obonezhskaya five of the Zaonezhskaya Half of the Olonets Christmas parish mentions: 'And from that Olonets parish, the Church of the Resurrection of Christ stands on the river Megrega.'

Previously, a cross stood by the church at the exit from the village, erected in honor of the victory over the Polish-Lithuanian detachment during the Time of Troubles. It had the inscription: 'At this place, according to established tradition, around 1620, during the invasion of Lithuania, a fierce battle took place. In memory of this event, on the buried bodies, by the efforts of pious ancestors, this cross was erected, and due to its old age, it was renewed on May 11, 1883.' A similar cross stood at the entrance to the village. In memory of the battles and victims of that time, in 1613, the Church of Flora and Lavra, the oldest in Karelia, was built in Megrega.

In 1937, under Soviet power, the Resurrection Church was seized from the believers by the decision of the so-called 'troika,' stripped of its dome with a cross and bell tower, and converted into a House of Culture.
