Church of the Resurrection of Christ in Lukha

Фото 1
The Church of the Resurrection of Christ is the oldest in the complex and was built in 1680 with funds from the merchant M. F. Popov. Due to its location, it stands out in the ensemble, dividing the square into two parts. The architecture and proportions of the temple resemble medieval styles, with a three-nave interior layout, but the two-column base, originally of two lights, is typical of Kostroma architecture from the second half of the 17th century. The large white brick base with a gabled roof is topped with five large domes on high light drums. The altar chapel consists of three semicircular apses, with the central one significantly larger than the side ones. Along the northern and western walls are a gallery, baptistery, and refectory, added in the 18th and 19th centuries, while along the southern wall is a low single-domed chapel from the late 17th century.

The external decor of the church features a colorful ornamentation typical of the architectural trend of that time, which sought to saturate the composition with plastic and decorative elements. The corners of the building are reinforced with bundles of semi-columns supporting an elaborate cornice with rows of small bricks and a ledge, on which massive false arches rest. The figured window frames are made in the form of alternating kokoshniks and tridents. On the drum of the southern chapel, remnants of a tiled frieze with plant-geometric and narrative motifs have been preserved, similar to the decoration of many Yaroslavl monuments. Inside the church, several relics are kept, including a Gospel, two altar crosses, and a censer, with inscriptions confirming that they were donated to the temple by its sponsor.
