The Vladimir Church was located on Spasskaya Street in such a way that its temple part with altars and refectory was on the eastern side, while the bell tower was on the western side. These parts were connected by a covered stone passage in the form of a gentle arch, passing over the street.

The church had historical and memorial significance, as it was the closest to the Kazan Church on the parallel Streletskaya Street, together forming a linear ensemble. Its silhouette was well visible from the streets, houses, and yards. The church existed in the city since 1725 and, according to tradition, was built by parishioners who were owners of brick factories. Previously, to the north of the church, there was a dense forest, where later the streets Martynova (now Radishcheva) and Shatalnaya (now Karyukina) appeared.

Until 1832, the church was small, made of stone, with warm and cold parts. In 1832, the bell tower was moved to another street and connected to the church by an arch. It became three-tiered in the classical style: the first tier was a square base, and the two upper, smaller tiers were octagonal, topped with a dome and spire.

After the fire in 1864, the church was restored, and in 1873-1874, the warm church in honor of the Prophet Elijah was rebuilt into two lights. A light drum with a dome topped with a cross was erected over the refectory. In 1883-1884, the cold Vladimir Church was also rebuilt into a warm stone five-domed structure. In 1898, A. Yakhontov wrote that the church building with its additions and fence represented a harmonious and beautiful whole.

The Vladimir Church formed the exit of Spasskaya Street, now Soviet, to Bolshaya Saratovskaya Street, now A.A. Plastov Boulevard, which defined its local architectural and urban significance. The church's more significant urban planning role lay in the northeast direction of the compositional triangle, the northwest direction of which was formed by the Ascension Cathedral. This triangle created the city's vertical silhouette, rhythmically placing religious buildings as the main vertical dominants.

The church had high historical, memorial, and architectural-artistic value. It was connected with the city's history, located near the birthplace of V.I. Lenin, and was an important element of the architectural-spatial urban planning system of Simbirsk.
