The first church in the former village of Staro Nikulino was built in 1660 and consecrated in honor of the Kazan Mother of God. After it burned down, a chapel was constructed in its place, which was mentioned earlier. In the village of Pilyugino, also known as Volynshchino, a stone church was built in 1817 in the name of Archangel Michael. Its construction was overseen by landowner Nadezhda Vasilyevna Kraevskaya.

This church houses the icon of the Vladimir Mother of God, which was revealed in the neighboring village of Dubenki at a spring. No information has been preserved about the time and circumstances of its revelation. Local residents say that the icon was transferred to the church from the chapel built at the site of its revelation, but later landowner Vasily Petrovich Chufarov took it away, and currently, only a copy remains in the church. Every year on June 23, a procession with the icon of the Vladimir Mother of God takes place from the village of Staro Nikulino to the village of Dubenki. There, at the site of the icon's revelation, a communal prayer service is held in the chapel, accompanied by a large number of pilgrims from neighboring villages. On the same day, a one-day fair is held in the village of Staro Nikulino.

In 1888, a church parish school was opened at this location.
