The church in Stary Akhmatovo is one of the oldest in the Boldinsky region. According to the church inventory of 1847 and clerical records, the temple was built in 1672. It was wooden, had one altar, and was dedicated to the Vladimir Mother of God. This original church existed until the end of the 19th century, and in 1870 it was rebuilt.

Initially, the church featured simple architecture and small dimensions: its length was 13 arshins, width 8 arshins, and height 6 arshins. Until 1870, the church's dome stood on a gable roof, but that year an octagonal lantern was added to it. Above the refectory, a single-tier bell tower was built, which could previously be accessed through a window from the refectory. In 1870, thanks to the efforts of the parishioners, the walls of the church were covered with boards and painted white. In 1873, the iconostasis was re-gilded, and some icons were replaced. The interior walls were covered with fabric painted blue and adorned with images from the last days of the Savior's earthly life. The church was located in the center of the village, 25 sazhens from the Volost administration and 40 sazhens from the houses of the residents.

Previously, the parish cemetery was located by the church, but later a separate site was allocated for it outside the village at a distance of 100 sazhens.

Among the priests of the Staroakhmatovskaya church, Alexander Ivanovich Pevnitcky, who served from 1878 until his death on April 1, 1887, is particularly remembered. In 1888, the church had 503 men and 517 women. The church staff consisted of a priest and a psalmist. That year, the priest was 21-year-old P.F. Sadovsky, and the psalmist was 29-year-old V.E. Pozharsky. The church was recorded to have 34 dessiatinas of land. The old wooden church, built in 1672, fell into disrepair. In the early 20th century, a new wooden church began to be built in the village, as mentioned in the Address Calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese for 1904. It states that a new wooden church is being built in Stary Akhmatovo, and the church land is recorded as 34.5 dessiatinas. The parish had 650 men and 602 women. A church parish school operated at the church. The priest was 28-year-old Alexander Vasilyevich Smirnov, the psalmist was 26-year-old P.P. Svyatukhin, and the church elder was I.I. Moshkov.
