The Church of St. Varlaam is located in the center of the village of Rimskoe, near the confluence of the villages of Ulyanovskaya and Gorskaya, and serves as an architectural dominant for the entire Rimskoe cluster of villages.

This structure belongs to three-part churches with equal width and height, having a horizontal longitudinal axis. The church includes the main prayer room, a five-sided altar, and a narthex. Previously, it was adjoined by a porch with a western entrance and stairs under a separate gable roof.

Lighting in the church is provided by both southern and northern windows. The walls of the prayer room and narthex are made in the "in oblo" technique, while the altar is done in "in swallowtail". Inside, they are completely hewn without rounding corners and were previously painted in white and light blue colors. The floors in the main room and altar are double: a "black" one made of logs laid perpendicular to the entrance, and a "clean" one made of planks "in groove", also laid perpendicular to the entrance and reinforced with three bindings. The floor in the narthex was likely single, made of planks laid perpendicular to the entrance.

The ceilings in the main room, altar, and narthex are also double: a "black" one made of logs joined "in quarter" and laid perpendicular to the entrance, and a "clean" one made of profiled boards "in staggered pattern". The windows in all rooms have a three-post structure with posts joined "in quarter" and a profiled windowsill. The entrance doors are also three-post with posts joined "in quarter".

The roof over the main room is hipped, four-pitched, adorned with decorative pediments and previously topped with an onion dome on a round drum. Above the altar, the roof is hipped, five-pitched, possibly with a dome or cross. The roof over the narthex is gable. The church's roofing is made of two layers of road timber.

Outside, the church is clad in horizontal planed boards with a rectangular two-step cornice.

The Church of St. Varlaam from the village of Rimskoe, built in the late 19th century, is of architectural and typological interest and plays an important role in the composition of the Rimskoe cluster of villages.
