The church was built in 1807 with funds from the parishioners. It is a stone building with one dome and a tiered bell tower. In 1822, a refectory was added to the church, connecting it to the bell tower. The iconostasis consists of three tiers and is adorned with gilding. The church's frescoes were completed in the 19th century.

The church has three altars: in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Saint Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra in Lycia, the miracle worker, and Saint Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh, the miracle worker.

The Feodorovskaya Icon of the Mother of God and the Icon of Seraphim of Sarov were particularly venerated.

A church school, church charity, and a Sobriety Society operated at the church.

In 1936, the church was closed. During the Soviet era, its building housed a warehouse.

The stone church built in 1807 replaced the dilapidated church of the former Assumption Shereński Monastery, which was abolished in 1764 and transformed into the parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary of the village of Sharna.
