The village of Lyubets is located on the banks of the Klyazma River, 7 versts from the district town of Kovrov and 60 versts from Vladimir. In ancient times, there was a patriarchal house male Assumption Monastery here, the date of its founding is unknown. In the records of the patriarchal treasury office from 1628, it mentions "the church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos on the Klyazma River, a patriarchal monastery mansion in Lyubets." In 1653, the same records indicate the church of the Assumption of the Most Holy Theotokos with an altar dedicated to Saint Martyr Paraskeva and another church of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in the patriarchal house Lyubets Monastery.

After the monastery was abolished in 1764, the Assumption Church became a parish church and continues to operate in the village to this day. The stone building of the church was constructed in the late 17th century, and the bell tower and stone fence were built later. The church has two altars: in the cold part in honor of the Assumption of the Mother of God and in the warm parish in the name of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. Here are kept ancient icons, especially revered by the parishioners: the local icon of the Assumption of the Mother of God and the icon of the Smolensk Mother of God, adorned with a velvet robe with about 500 pearls; on the reverse side of the icon is depicted Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.

Church documents have been preserved in full: copies of the metric books since 1803, confession lists since 1829; an inventory of church property was compiled in 1877 and is kept in the church. The church owns buildings: two stone chapels without entrances, three wooden ones, one of which has an entrance in the village of Belkovo; a wooden watchman's lodge and seven wooden trading stalls rented out at the fair on August 15. The land belonging to the church includes: a homestead area of 1200 square fathoms, hayfields of 10 desyatins, and a small forest of 900 square fathoms. There is also a donated land near the church fence amounting to 350 square fathoms, transferred to the church in 1850 by the Vladimir merchant Andrey Afanasevich Spiridonov; wooden stalls have been built on this land.

The church staff includes a priest, a deacon, and a psalmist. The annual income of the clergy does not exceed 850 rubles. The homes of the clergy members are their own, built on church land. The parish includes the village and the villages of Belkovo, Pogost, Lechachevo, Sukhanikha, Yelnikovo, and Sychevo, located no more than 5 versts from the church. In total, the parish has 400 households, 1080 men, and 1240 women.
