Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Kirikovo

Фото 1
The Assumption Church was built in 1692. In the first half of the 17th century, priest Ananias, who served in the then wooden Kirikovo church, taught Nikita Minin, who later became the famous Patriarch Nikon in Russian history. Ananias's son, Hilarion, later founded and became the first abbot of the Holy Assumption Florish Monastery, was the spiritual advisor to Tsar Feodor Alexeyevich, and was the Metropolitan of Suzdal and Yuriev. At the end of his life, in his native village, he financed the construction of a stone Assumption Church. In the directory "Monuments of History and Culture of the Gorky Region," A.V. Kessel describes this cultural heritage site as follows: "The cornices, window frames with kokoshniks, and the perspective portal of the western entrance are executed in the style of medieval Russian architecture. A low altar was added to the church, and later a chapel was added to the northern side. After that, the openings of the originally open gallery at the western entrance were bricked up, and it turned into a narthex. The main entrance is now located under the arches of a small tent-shaped bell tower, added to the southwestern corner. This unusual composition adds picturesque charm to this small structure."
