Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ilyinsk

Фото 1
The Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a parish church that operates both in summer and winter. It was built with the funds of parishioners in 1755. The summer church is dedicated to the Assumption of the Mother of God, while the winter refectory houses two chapels: one in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker and the other in honor of the prophet Elijah. The stone church was erected in 1755, replacing an earlier wooden structure that, according to tradition, stood on the bank of the Cheremukha River. Due to the bank's collapse, the wooden church was moved to a new location and replaced with a stone one. The exact time of the wooden church's construction is unknown, but it was dedicated to the prophet Elijah, which is why the parish was called Ilyinsk. The first mention of the Ilyinsk parish with its villages appears in a charter from the boyar Prince Fyodor Ivanovich Mstislavsky, issued to the Simonov Monastery in 1621. This charter mentions villages that still exist today: Yelokhovo, Lytkino, Andreyevskoye, Pirogovo, Samoryadovo, Chakhovo, Ivanovskoye, Strelnikovo, Okatovo, Kalinino, Uglenskoe, Ginyatiki, Yakunino, Morusevo, Khudynino, Makarovo, Petrovskoye, Kuznetsovo, Polyany, Nifonino, Patoki, Mitinino.
