The former bread factory in Bogorodsk was located in the building of the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The adjacent territory previously served as a cemetery, as confirmed by excavations. According to documents from the 17th century, there were two wooden churches in the village of Bogorodsk, one of which was located in the cemetery.

The stone building of the Church of the Assumption was constructed in 1816 under Vasily Sergeyevich Sheremetev. The church, made of red brick in Moorish style, represented a modernized version of Byzantine architecture. The church had three altars, the main one consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Mother of God. In the altar, as described by Count P.S. Sheremetev, there was a memorial to the Sheremetev family in a golden frame under the coat of arms, starting with Vasily Sergeyevich. Beneath the church building, there was a cellar, or the burial vault of the Sheremetevs, where family members rested. The first to be buried here was Tatyana Ivanovna Sheremeteva, who died on September 16, 1830. Her husband Vasily Sergeyevich, eighteen years her senior, died six months later, on February 8, 1831. They rest under a single monument adorned with the coats of arms of the Sheremetevs and Marchepoks.

In 1858, a parish school was opened in the village of Bogorodsk, the third of its kind. Among the teachers were the Vinogradov sisters and Konstantin Alexandrovich Travin, a young teacher of church singing and culture. The Assumption Church housed a silver censer acquired from the Nizhny Novgorod Transfiguration Cathedral. It bore the inscription: "By the decree of the Great Sovereign Tsar and Grand Duke Vasily Ivanovich, Autocrat of All Russia, in the year 1607 this silver censer was built in Nizhny Novgorod for the cathedral church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, weighing a gold ruble, about 0.5 kg, and was renewed in 1715 during the reign of the Blessed Sovereign Tsar and Grand Duke Peter Alexeyevich, Autocrat of All Russia, under the Blessed Grand Duke Alexey Petrovich, through the efforts of the Most Reverend Silvester, Metropolitan of Nizhny Novgorod and Anadyr, and all the city of God-loving benefactors." Funds for the maintenance of the Assumption Church were allocated by a landowner.

The building of the parish school of the Assumption Church stood in Bogorodsk for a long time but was destroyed in the autumn of 1978.

Documents from the 1890s indicate that the priest in the church was I.T. Kudryavtsev, who was over sixty years old. He graduated from seminary with a second-class degree and served since 1850. From 1867, Deacon F.I. Bogorodsky, who graduated from the higher department of the spiritual school, served in the church. The psalmist was E.V. Bestuzhev. It is also known that parishioners of the church were residents of Vysokovo, Pesochnoe, Demidovo, Knyazhe-Polya, Shopovo, Anten'evo, Berezovka, Lazarevo, Krastelikha, and Vybolovo.

The church was located in the market square and amazed with its architecture. It was surrounded by a beautiful stone fence with wrought-iron grilles.

In the 1930s, the church was desecrated, its domes were thrown down, and the bell tower was destroyed.
