Assumption Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Beloyarsk

In the village of Beloyarsk, near Yekaterinburg, Orthodox residents are experiencing immense joy. Since April 2012, Sunday services have been held not in a makeshift parish building, but in a real church.

This church was built in 1822-1823. The main chapel is dedicated to the Assumption of the Mother of God, the right one to the Elevation of the Holy Cross, and the left one to Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker.

The church housed a relic, a cypress cross, into which a silver cross with particles of the relics of saints was embedded: the righteous Simeon of Verkhoturye, Archdeacon Stephen, Herman of Sviya, and the Venerables Macarius and Laurence of the Caves.

The church was distinguished by its majestic architecture and was considered one of the most beautiful in the region. Archival documents testify to its rich decoration: external frescoes and an internal carved iconostasis with gilding attracted many travelers. It was often visited by archpastors, state officials, and other guests.

Only one amateur photo has survived to this day, showing the still undestroyed majestic church.

During the Soviet era, the Assumption Church, like many others, suffered destruction. In 1922, revolutionary authorities confiscated church and worship items. In 1932, the building was handed over to the district executive committee, the bell tower was blown up, leaving only part of the fire tower. The church was used as a grain storage facility, then it was converted into a cinema club, and from 1963, it housed the district printing house.

For more than 75 years, the church was used for purposes other than its intended use, and only on June 21, 2010, the first prayer service to the Mother of God was held in the building of the Assumption Church. This year, the transfer of the church to the parish is planned.

At the beginning of 2012, the printing house began to vacate the building, and on January 19, 2012, on the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, a water blessing service was held.

By the Bright Resurrection of Christ, parishioners arranged the altar, and on April 15, 2012, on the great feast, an Easter service took place in the church.

Now parishioners are engaged in the internal reconstruction of the church. The walls and ceilings of the second floor, which divided the church into rooms and utility spaces, have been dismantled. Work has been carried out to modernize the heating system.

Further restoration work requires significant financial investments, which the parish cannot afford. The community appeals for help to all who can contribute to the restoration of the Assumption Church in its former beauty.
