All vessels entering the Rybinsk lock from the reservoir can see the Assumption Church. It is a tall church surrounded by trees and a cemetery. Its construction began in 1740-1752, and despite numerous reconstructions, it remains one of the oldest shrines in Rybinsk. In 1789, a decision was made to add a second floor, and the construction of the tiered bell tower was completed in the same year. In 1828, the church was consecrated in honor of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The interior decoration of the temple impresses with an abundance of light and the beauty of wall paintings done in the traditions of Russian iconography.

During the Soviet era, the Assumption Church avoided desecration and looting, which happened to many other churches. Today, it continues to welcome believers. In the summer of 2009, the exterior of the church building was renovated.
