Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Balashov (Lost)

Фото 1
Before the revolution, on the site of the kindergarten "Pchelnka," previously known as school No. 10, stood the cemetery church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, built in 1858. Next to the church was a cemetery known as the Assumption Cemetery. This church held funerals and memorial services for the city's residents. The church building was on a foundation of rubble stone, and its roof and ornate crosses were covered with silver paint. After the revolution, a decision was made to close the Assumption Cemetery, and by the mid-1920s it ceased to exist. However, the church continued to operate and by the end of the 1930s remained the only functioning church in the city, as the others had been closed or destroyed. On January 26, 1940, the church was closed, and its building was handed over to the Balashov Aero Club. Later, the building was demolished, and school No. 10 was built on its foundation.
