Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Фото 1
The church was built in 1870 on the site of one of the fence towers, which was deemed unnecessary. The exterior of the temple reflects the influence of Russian architecture and demonstrates the features of Totma architecture from the late 19th century. The church harmoniously blended into the monastery ensemble. Surprisingly, after the revolution, the Assumption Church was not destroyed. Its walls housed an assembly hall and the library of the Totma Forest Technical School, which was frequently visited by Nikolai Rubtsov. However, after the technical school was closed, the church's prosperity came to an end. In 1976, the building, left unattended, began to be dismantled for bricks by the order of the director of the timber enterprise to build a garage. Fortunately, local historian Stanislav Mikhailovich Zaitsev prevented its complete destruction, although by that time the church was already in a deplorable state. The current ruins were captured in a painting by the famous Vologda artist Vladimir Korbakov, but they no longer inspire anyone.
