In the village of Znamenskoe, Kazan Province, there are two churches. The winter church, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, was built of wood in 1865 with funds from the parishioners and has one altar. The summer church, also with one altar, is dedicated to the beheading of Saint John the Baptist. It was constructed of stone in 1905 thanks to a donation of 5000 rubles from Mr. Borozdin and additional funds provided by the church elder, merchant Ivan Tikhomirov. Both churches are surrounded by fences: a wooden one for the first and a stone one with wooden grilles for the second. The cemetery is located within the fence of the Kazan church, where a locally revered relic, the ancient Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, is kept.

The village is situated 100 versts from Kostroma and 20 versts from Kineshma. The nearest churches are in the village of Kozmodemyanskoye, 4 versts away, in the village of Shiryayevo, 5 versts away, and in the village of Ugolskoye, 6 versts away.
