Church of the Holy Trinity in Troitsk (Syzran District)

Today, another monument of antiquity and Russian architecture deserves attention on Syzran land: the former Church of the Holy Trinity built in 1733 in the village of Troitsk. This village is considered one of the oldest in the Samara region and was likely founded in 1706 by the nobleman S.K. Dmitriev, an ancestor of the famous writers I.I. Dmitriev and M.A. Dmitriev. In his estate, Bogoroditskoye, the Bogoroditskaya Church was built first, followed by the Trinity Church.

The ancient part of the Trinity Church, without the unsuccessful late 19th-century additions, chapels, and bell tower, demonstrates traditional skills in creating volumetric-spatial compositions and established decorative techniques of Russian architecture. The building plan of the Trinity follows a three-part scheme: the refectory, the church itself, and the three-apse altar. Vertically, the building represents the well-known two-tier form in Russian architecture, an "octagon" on a "square". The edges of the main forms are highlighted by corner "buttresses" and a characteristic cornice made of "towns". On the southern and northern sides of the "square" walls, the window and door openings create expressive architectural compositions that are attractive in themselves and provide ample lighting inside the building. Notable are the door and window frames, finished with popular "rooster combs" in 18th-century Russian architecture. Some details of the frames are carved from stone. In the past, before the building was plastered, the relief frames with white stone fragments created a picturesque play of light and shadow against the red background of the brick walls.

The building is topped with a dome-shaped metal roof with an onion-shaped cupola, set on an octagonal neck with widening sections. It stands on a plinth characteristic of Russian architecture, the upper part of which is profiled with small and large rolls, separated by a ledge, emphasizing the visual stability of the structure.
