Before the construction of the stone Trinity Church in 1864, there was a wooden temple in Smolino dedicated to Archangel Michael, with chapels in honor of the Three Hierarchs: Basil the Great, Gregory the Theologian, and John Chrysostom. According to archival data, this temple was still functioning in the 1860s, as evidenced by the metric books of the Archangel Church of the village of Smolino for the years 1864-1865. It is likely that the wooden temple was associated with the Yazykov landowners, as the peasants built the stone church themselves after the abolition of serfdom.

The "Address Calendar of the Nizhny Novgorod Diocese" for 1888 reports that the stone church, erected in honor of the Most Holy Life-Giving Trinity, was built in 1864 and had two altars. The priest was P.P. Pevitsky, 59 years old, a seminary graduate, serving since 1851. The psalmist was N.A. Veselovsky, 30 years old, a graduate of a two-class spiritual school, serving since 1877. I.V. Ulyanov, 62 years old, was listed as a non-staff psalmist.

In 1904, the same source specifies: the stone church, built between 1864 and 1895, had altars of the Holy Trinity, Archangel Michael, and the Three Hierarchs. The church owned 34 desyatinas of land, a priest's house, and a state salary of 392 rubles. The parish included one village with 522 men and 580 women, as well as a church-parish school. Priest Alexander Vasilyevich Remezov, 25 years old, graduated from the seminary and served since 1900. N.A. Veselovsky remained the psalmist, now 47 years old, in the parish since 1884. The church elder was I.E. Demidov.

The church was closed in 1937. Participants of the Smolino meeting recall that in December of that year, a special squad from Diveevo arrived, which removed the bells and took them away in an unknown direction.
