On the territory of the Ardatov region lies the oldest settlement. The large Sakonskoye settlement is located on the right bank of the Tёsha River, while the small Sakonskoye settlement is on the left. On the right bank of the river, opposite the village, there is a spring known as a "geyser."

According to N.V. Morokhin's "Nizhny Novgorod Toponymic Dictionary," the Tatar words "saken" and "kalgan" indicate that there was a Tatar outpost here. The settlement in Sakony served as a residence for ruling princes. It is known that the Chigotayev family originated here, from which the Chigotayevs, Romodanovs, Shcherbatovs, Shekhovskys, and Chaadaevs emerged. Local historian A.V. Bazaev clarifies that the settlement also served as a customs point on the old trade route, sakme, which was closed in 1498 due to the control of the Kazan Khanate.

The village belonged to various owners, including the boyars Romodanov, the industrialists Demidov, Major General S.L. Lvov, court marshal D.N. Durnovo, and his wife M.N. Durnovo. The Durnovo family remained landowners in Sakony until the 1917 revolution. The estate was managed by the nobleman Ivan Ilyich Shchetinin.

In Sakony, there is a monument of urban planning and architecture of regional significance, the Trinity Church. It has a main cold altar dedicated to the Holy Trinity and two warm chapels: the right one in honor of Saint Basil and the left one in honor of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. The church dates back to 1869.
