In 1446, the restoration of the Suzdal principality was led by brothers Vasily and Fyodor Shuisky. From their brief rule, a charter to the Spaso-Efimiev Monastery for the villages of Gorokhovets volost has survived. The charter mentions that the princes granted the archimandrite of the Spassky Monastery and his brethren a hermitage in their estate in Gorokhovets, as well as the villages of Myachkovo, Pukhma, Starkovo, and others.

Until 1764, the village belonged to the Spaso-Efimiev Monastery. According to the scribal books of 1628, there was a monastery courtyard in Starkovo, where a caretaker, a monk, seven peasant households, and three landless households lived. At that time, there was no church in Starkovo, but in 1678, a wooden church in the name of the Life-Giving Trinity was mentioned in the census books. This church burned down in 1749, and a new wooden church was built in its place, purchased from the Bystritsky pogost. In 1795, this church also burned down, and in 1797 another wooden church was built.

In 1863, a stone church was erected, which still exists today, and the wooden church was dismantled in 1867. In the new church, two altars were consecrated: in the name of the Trinity and in honor of the Uncreated Image of Christ the Savior.

The ancient image of the Uncreated Savior and the surviving image of the Kazan Mother of God from the fire of 1749 were especially revered by the parishioners. In Starkovo, there was a tradition of receiving holy miraculous icons from the Florishcheva desert, which were carried in a procession around the area every year on the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The interior decorations of the church have been updated multiple times. Items from the 17th-18th centuries have survived, such as the staff of St. Euphemius of Suzdal and Gospels from 1637 and 1728.

Since the mid-19th century, a church parish school operated in Starkovo. The church in Starkovo survived the Stalin era and remained one of the active churches in the post-war years. It withstood the period of anti-religious campaigns and war and is still open to parishioners today.

The snow-white, ornate church reflects in the waters of the lake. People come from all around for spring water in Starkovo, and it seems that the very land here possesses healing power.
