The Trinity Church in the village of Mikhaly was built of stone in 1829 with funds from the parishioners. It has a stone bell tower and a fence with an iron grille. Next to the church is a cemetery. The temple has three altars: in honor of the Holy Trinity, the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. It also houses a locally revered icon of the Mother of God "Consolation." The distance to Kostroma is 70 versts, and to Galich, 50 versts. The nearest churches are in the village of Zameria (1 verst), the village of Voronya in the Kostroma district (4 versts), and the village of Govenova (8 versts).

In the 17th century, the village was part of the Kostroma district according to administrative-territorial division and belonged to the Pleskaya tenement according to church-administrative division. In 1629, according to the import charter, the village of Mikhalovo on the Mere River belonged to Prince Fyodor Yakimov Boryatinsky. There was a wooden church of the Life-Giving Trinity with an altar of Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village. The church had icons, candles, books, vestments, bells, as well as property of the landowners and parishioners. The church servants were priest Ivan Vasilyev, deacon Gryaznushka Ortemyev, and sexton Ivashko Petrov. In 1695, the church is mentioned as located in the Shachebalsky stan on the Mere River.

In April 1722, priest Fyodor Maximov was issued a transitional memory in the Kostroma district, in the estate of princes Afanasiy and Sergey Petrov Boryatinsky, in the village of Mikhalovo to the church of the Life-Giving Trinity to replace the deceased priest Leontiy. In September 1729, a decree was issued allowing Colonel Vasily Stepanov Fryazin to build a new church in his estate in the village of Mikhalovo to replace the old wooden Trinity church with altars of the Holy Mother of God of Kazan and Nicholas the Wonderworker.
