Church of the Holy Trinity in Lukha

Фото 1
The Trinity Cathedral, built in 1775, stands out from neighboring churches with its architectural style. The foundation of its composition is a tall, pillarless square base topped with five domes. A narrow porch, adjoining the western wall of the church, connects to the northern chapel, while to the south, a long refectory, designed as a single-pillar chamber, adjoins the building. The exterior appearance of the cathedral combines elements from two architectural eras: the 17th century and Baroque. The ancient Russian style is manifested in the shaped window frames, the arcature belt, the cornices made of porches, and the decorative zakomaras. Baroque features are evident in the concave-convex roof over the altar chapel, the rich decoration of the drums on square pedestals with an entablature, and the shape of the bulbous domes on hemispheres.

The interior space of the church was altered in 1940 when it was converted into classrooms for the local vocational school. In the early 1990s, the Trinity Church was returned to the Russian Orthodox Church. The building has now been renovated with funds from parishioners and donations and is in satisfactory condition.

Between the Assumption and Trinity churches stands a tented bell tower, the exact date of its construction is unknown. It is believed to have been built simultaneously with the Assumption Cathedral, as indicated by the similarity in their decorative elements. The bell tower is a tall octagonal structure on a massive squat square base, adorned with porches and a double belt of niches. The edges of the pillar are rounded with pilasters, and the faces of the tent are pierced with three tiers of openings. Inside the eastern wall of the first tier, covered by a barrel vault, there is a stone staircase that transitions to a wooden one at the level of the octagon.
