The Uhra River, swollen in its lower reaches due to the proximity of the reservoir, serves as the boundary of the Rybinsk district. Here, at the mouth of the Uhra's tributary, the Lapushka River, in 1773, the local landowner Prince S.I. Ukhtomsky built a stone church of Nicholas, where he was buried at the altar. The central part of the building is a tiered structure of the octagon on a square base. The tall octagon is topped with another small light octagon and a dome on a thin octagonal drum. The base for the lower octagon is a massive square, to which a five-sided apse and a refectory, significantly wider than the western side of the square, are attached on two sides. In the northeast and southeast corners of the refectory are chapels, whose semicircular apses, protruding forward, visually soften the strict appearance of the southern and northern facades of the square. At the western wall of the refectory is a five-sided narthex, which served as the main entrance to the church; two other entrances were located on the central axis of the northern and southern facades of the square.

The entire early classical decor of the Nicholas church is executed in low relief, which corresponds to the overall appearance of the temple, marked by conciseness and severity. Undoubtedly, the modern appearance was influenced by the renovation of the building carried out in 1900 by the Poshikhon merchants Rastoropov. One can only regret the loss of the free-standing bell tower, which visually constituted a single whole with the church. However, even in its current form, the Nicholas church, thanks to its successful location on the bank hill, slender silhouette, and successful composition of volumes, can be considered one of the best monuments of the region.
