Interestingly, the village of Kamennik-Popovskoye lost its historical name and is now simply called the village of Kamenniki. The name is related to the abundance of wild stone in the surroundings, while "Popovskoye" indicates that many clergymen lived here. In 1791, a stone church dedicated to the Holy Trinity was built with the funds of local residents. From 1810 to 1814, a fence made of wild stone with brick pillars, iron grilles, four towers at the corners, and two holy gates was erected around the cemetery.

From 1828 to 1910, various priests served as rectors of the church. In 1828, P. A. Frolovsky became the rector, under whom a large stone bell tower and two stone extensions were built. From 1843 to 1847, Alexander Ioannov was the rector, and in 1848, Alexey Grigoryev Tikhvinsky. From 1886 to 1910, Alexey Andreev Petrovsky served as the rector.

On September 14, 1935, the Council of People's Commissars of the USSR decided to construct the Rybinsk and Uglich Hydroelectric Power Stations, and on December 7 of the same year, the Volgolag was established. The village of Kamenniki became one of the centers of Volgolag and Volgostroy. On September 4, 1936, the evacuation of residents from the flooded areas began. In the summer of 1938, the bells were removed from the church, and in the autumn of the same year, the bell tower was blown up. In 1939, the church was converted into a factory office.

Over half a century, the building fell into disrepair. The idea of restoration belonged to the director of the "Rybinskenergozhelezobeton" factory, L. A. Vukolov. By 2000, the church was cleared of debris by the parishioners, and restoration work began. In 2001, the first divine liturgy was held in the church.
