On Pokrovskaya Hill stood a magnificent ensemble of two churches. In ancient times, there was the Pokrovsky Men's Monastery, founded, according to legend, in 1579 by the Cherkassky princes, the owners of the village of Ivanovo. They thus immortalized the capture of Kazan by the troops of Ivan the Terrible on the day of the Intercession and the discovery of the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God. The miraculous icon was found after a great fire in Kazan at the site of a burned house. A copy of it was brought to the village of Ivanovo, and the residents welcomed it on Lezhnevskaya Road. Later, a Kazan chapel was built at this site. The monastery, surrounded by forest, was located beyond the village on a hill that steeply descended to the Uvod River and the Kokuy Stream. Next to the monastery was a small settlement with several peasant houses, which later formed Troitse Sloboda Street, now part of Soviet Street.

The first reliable mention of the monastery dates back to 1626, when it was headed by the igumen Savvatiy. In the old cemetery of the monastery, tombstones of the schemamonks Dionysius and Dionysius, who died in 1629 and 1681, have been preserved. In 1632, there was a wooden Trinity Church of cell type in the monastery with altars dedicated to the Intercession and St. Sergius of Radonezh. Descriptions from 1646 and 1667 mention a second wooden church of tent type, dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God.

Stone construction began in the late 17th century, and in 1693 the Intercession Church was consecrated. Its main altar was dedicated to the Kazan Icon of the Mother of God, and the side altars to the Intercession and St. Sergius of Radonezh. The church was topped with five domes, and to the west, a tent-shaped bell tower adjoined it.

Interestingly, in documents from 1719, the monastery is referred to as Pokrovsky, while in 1723, as Troitsky. The Cherkassky princes allocated 29 rubles and 50 quarters of bread annually for the maintenance of the monastery. The winter Trinity Church was built according to the design of the Italian architect Ya.Ya. Marichelli and consecrated by Bishop Ksenofont on June 19, 1819. The altars were dedicated to the icons of the Mother of God "Znamenie" and Smolensk. The church was the finest example of classicism in Ivanovo. Its facades were adorned with six-column porticos with triangular pediments, and the building was topped with five hemispherical domes. Later, the temple was restored from 1866 to 1872 with funds from the Garelins brothers. When an extension was made on the western side, the grave of schemamonk Dionysius ended up beneath it, and a special room was arranged for its preservation. Inside the church, new three-tiered iconostases were installed, and the wall and vault paintings were renewed.

In 2000, the construction of the Church of the Holy Trinity began in the center of Ivanovo, which is an exact copy of the Trinity Cathedral in the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra, where the relics of St. Sergius of Radonezh rest.
