The Trinity Church in the village of Khomutovo, built of stone along with a bell tower in 1835 with funds from parishioners, was surrounded by a semi-stone fence, inside which was the parish cemetery. The church had three altars: in honor of the Life-Giving Trinity, the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker. Of particular interest were the royal gates with carvings of ancient work. The church was located 45 versts from Kostroma and 30 versts from Nerekhta. The nearest churches were: the Assumption Church in the village of Pechenegova 2 versts away, the Trinity Church in the village of Amineva 3 versts away, the Theological Church in Bogoslavskoye 6 versts away, and the Annunciation Church in the village of Kunestina 8 versts away.

The church was lost during the Soviet period, and only overgrown mounds of the foundation remain in its place.

In the 17th century, the village was part of the Kostroma district, in the Emstna volost. In 1628, a church "Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker in the village of Khomutovo" was mentioned.

From 1627 to 1631, the village belonged to Lyubim Alexeyevich Shuvalov and his uncle Osip Semyonovich Shuvalov. At that time, there was a wooden church of the Life-Giving Trinity in the village, and on the church land lived the widow of priest Vasily Ivanov and the deacon Yestifyev. In 1676, the "church of the Life-Giving Trinity and Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker" is mentioned.
