According to A.V. Bazaev's book "Historical Information about the Settlements of the Ardatov District," the village of Khokhlovo is first mentioned in the Arzamas land acts of 1613. At that time, there was already a wooden church dedicated to the Most Holy Mother of God. The majority of the land belonged to the provincial diocesan administration and was considered church property. Among the landowners of the village are mentioned the surnames Vraskiye, Mukhanov, Mosolov, Prokudin, and Olsufyev. The Counts Olsufyev owned land in the village until the 1917 revolution.

The Trinity Church is a monument of urban planning and architecture. It houses the main cold altar of the Holy Trinity and warm chapels: the right one, of the Image of the Unmade Savior, and the left one, of the Iveron Icon of the Mother of God.

The church dates back to 1764, and it was granted monument status by order No. 5-OD on April 24, 2000.
