Trinity Church in Dolgopolye

Фото 1
Currently, on the border of Vladimir and Yaroslavl regions, in the Alexandrov district, there is a group of settlements that have effectively merged into one. These are Podvyazye, Dolgopolye, and Spornovo. At the center of this agricultural conglomerate are the administration, a post office, an unfinished club made of silicate bricks, as well as an abandoned warehouse for cement and agricultural products. The warehouse, located on an elevation, stands out particularly as it occupies the former Trinity Church. The church building, designed in a classical style, impresses with its size and internal space. It was built with careful calculation, using large-span barrel-vaulted stone arches. Nowadays, it is hard to imagine a designer and contractor who would undertake such construction without reinforced concrete. However, in the mid-19th century, such a church was erected and stood for one and a half centuries despite all difficulties. According to some sources, the church was originally located in the village of Pavlovskoye-in-Pustoshakh of the Alexandrov district and was named after St. Nicholas the Wonderworker. Today, this settlement no longer exists. The dates of the building's existence, its renaming, and other details about both the church and the village of Dolgopolye remain to be uncovered by future researchers. For now, the church stands without a roof and is gradually deteriorating.
