Nine kilometers southeast of the city, along the straight road to Yaroslavl, formerly known as Efremovskaya, on a hill at the confluence of the Vorzhehot and Chechera rivers stands the Trinity Church on "Divnaya Gora." In ancient times, this hill and the area were known by the pagan name Kobyliya Gora. Around it, in the 16th century, there was the "Syreyka Sloboda," where residents engaged in the tanning of rawhide. Two wooden churches stood on the hill, dedicated to St. Trinity and St. Flora and Lavra, who were considered the patrons of horses in Orthodoxy. In 1674, the Rostov Metropolitan Ion Sysoevich, known for his active construction efforts, founded a monastery here after a vision, laying the foundation for a stone church of St. Trinity and renaming the area to Divnaya Gora. The name combines sacred and aesthetic motifs inspired by the Divnogorsk Monastery near Antioch and in Asia Minor, as well as Divnaya Gora in Sicily, where the miracle of the appearance of the icon of the Mother of God occurred. The beauty of the surrounding landscape, visible from the height of the hill, also played an important role.

The church founded by Ion was completed under his successor Joasaph in 1694. Its architecture combines features of the Ionian monuments of Rostov Veliky and Moscow's Naryshkin Baroque. The stepped volumes, the silhouette of the domes and the bell tower of the church harmoniously rise from the base of the hill and merge with the jagged edge of the surrounding forest, creating a truly wonderful architectural and natural ensemble. A local legend, likely arising in the 18th-19th centuries, tells of another "div": when invaders, either Tatars or Poles, were leaving Uglich, they saw in the evening twilight on the slope of the hill the resurrected warriors, mistaking them for sheaves placed by the peasants, and fled in fear.
