Stone construction in the monastery began in the late 17th century under Prince Mikhail Yakovlevich Cherkassky. With the blessing of Metropolitan Pavel of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas, in 1688, Prince Mikhail ordered the construction of a church with a refectory, cells, a front wall with gates, above which there was to be a bell tower with a church, as well as a fence. That same year, craftsmen from the village of Kadnitsy were invited, led by the famous Russian architect Pavel Sidorovich Potehin. A few years later, the stone Kazan church was consecrated, then the gate church in honor of St. Michael Malein, and later, following the model of the Church of the Archangel Michael, the main cathedral of the monastery, the Trinity Cathedral, was built. In the western right corner of the cathedral was the tomb over the burial place of the founder of the monastery, hieroschemamonk Makariy.

After the revolution, the monastery faced a tragic fate. In the late 1920s, it was closed, and the buildings were used as housing and workshops. Then the destruction of the architectural ensemble began. The Trinity Cathedral, Kazan church, monastery walls, and bell tower were destroyed to the ground, and only ruins remained of the church of St. Michael Malein and the main building. When the remnants of the monastery were handed over to the Church, only one tower remained.

The revival of the monastery began with the blessing of Archbishop, now Metropolitan, Georgiy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas in 2007. The bishop blessed nun Iosifa Yegasova to take on the restoration of the ancient monastery, and work began in earnest. The first residents were assisted by local residents, the administration of the Pavlovsky district and the city of Vorsma, as well as volunteers. By 2010, the bell tower was restored, on June 28, the Trinity Cathedral was laid, and on August 14, the altar of the church in honor of St. Michael Malein was consecrated. On September 18, 2011, the first Divine Liturgy was held in the revived Trinity Cathedral. Archbishop Georgiy was assisted by Bishop Kirill of Stavropol and Nevinnomyssk. The church also held the reburial of the remains of the founder of the monastery, schemamonk Makariy.
