The Church of Patriarch Tikhon and the Russian New Martyrs is probably the most beautiful among the new churches in Kostroma. Its construction began in 1995 in a new area of the city, Davydovsky. Initially, in 1991, the church was located in a building provided by the local administration, and since 1993, services have been held there. At the same time, the city allocated a plot for the construction of a new large church in the name of Patriarch Tikhon and the Russian New Martyrs, which was laid on May 9, 1993. During the excavation of the foundation, builders found a small metal icon of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, which is now kept in the church.

The construction lasted almost ten years, and the new church was consecrated on August 25, 2002, with a minor consecration, and then on November 19, with a major consecration. Since then, services have been regularly held in the church, and the parish also cares for the chapel of St. Sergius of Radonezh at the nursing home on the outskirts of Kostroma, and two Sunday schools for children and adults have been opened.

Although the construction took a long time, the building turned out to be very beautiful, with three tent-like roofs above the main volume and chapels decorated with kokoshniks, elegant porches, and a two-tiered bell tower. One of the chapels of the church is consecrated in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, in memory of the icon found during construction.
