The church chronicle of 1676 mentions the old Dmitrievskaya church, built in the late 16th century. It was likely dismantled, and by the early 19th century, there were two wooden churches in Vacha: one in honor of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, built in 1642, and another in honor of St. Tikhon of Amathus, about which little is known. Locals claim that priest Pavel Pobidinsky owned a handwritten chronicle that disappeared in the late 1970s.

In 1805, the construction of a new church began, which took a long time. After the consecration of the main church in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica in 1825, the old wooden church in the name of St. Tikhon of Amathus was likely dismantled.

On June 29, 2006, a board of trustees was established for the construction of a new church in honor of Tikhon of Amathus, headed by Boris Ivanovich Yesin, former chairman of the Board of Directors of OAO 'Trud'. On June 30, 2007, the site for its construction was consecrated. On July 22, 2010, in the restored church in the name of St. Tikhon of Amathus, the dean of the Kulebak district, priest David Pokrovsky, along with the clergy, performed the rite of blessing the bells, which were then raised to the bell tower.

On December 3, 2010, the new wooden church opened for believers. The first service was conducted by the dean of the Kulebak district, priest David Pokrovsky. The rector of the parish is priest Dionysius Novoshinsky.

On June 29, 2011, on the feast of Tikhon, a new wooden church in honor of St. Tikhon of Amathus was consecrated in Vacha. The consecration was performed by Archbishop Georgy of Nizhny Novgorod and Arzamas.
