In the 1960s, many descendants of Russian emigrants began to leave the small town of Campina, where the Russian Orthodox parish was located, and move to the larger city of Santa Rosa, situated 50 km away. Here, the new Orthodox community decided to build a church.

The church in honor of the apostles Peter and Paul in Santa Rosa was built later. The main builder was Father Peter Zavadovsky, who came from a well-known family in the Tomsk province, whose members were mainly priests before the revolution. Peter Zavadovsky moved to Brazil from Germany after World War II.

By 1985, the parish had gathered enough funds for the initial payment for construction and the creation of an architectural project. A preliminary budget and work schedule were drawn up. Fortunately, among the parishioners of the Russian community in San Francisco, there were professionals: architect Vladislav Danilov and construction engineer Vladimir Granitov, who offered their services for the construction of the new church. However, difficulties arose as Russian church architecture proved to be too complex and unfamiliar. The Sonoma County Building Department required the involvement of a local architect to ensure the building matched the architectural style of the area. For this, they turned to Vernon Avila & Associates, who developed the church's design. On November 12, 1986, in a solemn ceremony, crosses were installed on the church.

The parish continues its activities, raising children in the Russian Orthodox faith, providing assistance to those in need, and supporting the elderly.
