In the Serbian village of Gornji Adrovac stands the Russian Church of the Holy Trinity, built in memory of Russian volunteer Colonel Nikolai Nikolaevich Raevsky III, the grandson of the hero of the Borodino battle, who died fighting in the ranks of the Serbian army. On August 20 (September 2) 1876, while defending the heights of Golo Brdo against superior Turkish forces, Raevsky received a fatal head wound.

Initially, his body was buried at the Monastery of Saint Roman, then transferred to the family estate Razumovka (now Rozumivka in the Kropyvnytskyi region of Ukraine), after a memorial service was held in Belgrade. According to unconfirmed reports, his heart remained in Serbian soil.

His mother, Anna Mikhailovna Borozdina, intended to build a memorial church in Gornji Adrovac, but the plans were disrupted by the Balkan wars. After her death in 1883, the promise was to be fulfilled by her younger son, Mikhail Nikolaevich Raevsky, but he also passed away ten years later. Ultimately, Anna Mikhailovna's dream was realized by the widow of Mikhail Nikolaevich, Maria Grigorievna Gagarina.

Maria Grigorievna, daughter of the famous artist and vice-president of the Imperial Academy of Arts Grigory Grigorievich Gagarin, involved renowned Russian and Serbian artists and craftsmen in the work on the church. The icons were created by academician N. A. Bruni, while the frescoes, partially based on sketches by V. M. Vasnetsov, were executed by Serbian master D. Obrenovic.

The consecration of the church took place on September 2, 1903. Due to well-known circumstances, the church remained neglected for a long time. In 2001, the first restoration was carried out at the suggestion of the then Russian ambassador to Serbia V. E. Yegoshkin, with the support of several Russian and Serbian companies.

Every year, on September 2, a multitude of people from all over Serbia gather for the liturgy. Representatives of the Serbian army, Serbian Cossack troops, and veteran organizations, as well as representatives of the Russian Embassy, are present to honor Raevsky's memory. On this day, his symbolic grave at the site of his fatal injury is awash with flowers.
