St. Nicholas is an Orthodox parish of the Russian tradition serving Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. The parish includes Belarusians, Ukrainians, Russians, Finns, Macedonians, and other Orthodox Christians of various nationalities. We belong to the Australian-New Zealand Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, which is a self-governing part of the Russian Orthodox Church. Our services use Church Slavonic, traditional for Slavic peoples, and English, as the language of the country. Founded in 1952, our parish is the oldest continuously operating Orthodox parish in the Hunter Valley region.
