The history of the construction of the temple of the Russian Orthodox Church in Cyprus began in 1997 with the establishment of the St. Nicholas Foundation. The project gained significant momentum in June 2009 when Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Rus blessed the construction of the St. Nicholas Church in Limassol. This news was joyfully received by Archbishop Chrysostomos II of the Cyprus Orthodox Church. In 2010, all formal procedures for transferring the land in Limassol to the ownership of the Moscow Patriarchate were completed. It took several more years to develop the project and overcome various difficulties, including the banking crisis in Cyprus.

On May 24, 2016, the construction of the bell tower began, which was completed in April 2017. In June 2017, preparations for the construction site of the church itself began, and construction work started in September 2017.

According to the project, the completion of the Russian church is planned within two years, by March 2021. The complex will include an Orthodox church with a bell tower, built in the traditions of 17th-century Russian church architecture, and a pilgrim house. The church will accommodate up to 1,000 people, and the area of the pilgrim house will be 900 sq. m. It will house Sunday school classrooms, a refectory, a church shop, a hotel for pilgrims, and an assembly hall. The complex will be equipped for people with limited mobility. The church grounds will also feature parking and a children's playground.

The construction of the St. Nicholas Church in Limassol is being carried out exclusively through donations. In this regard, the St. Nicholas Foundation appeals to everyone who values Christian values and Russian traditions, whether they are residents of Cyprus, tourists, businessmen, or homemakers, believers, and those who are just coming to faith, to provide any assistance possible in the construction of the Russian church in Cyprus.
